So, the difference between these actually relies on word ending. There’s no actual difference, it’s really just a grammatical thing. If the word ends in a consonant, then it will end in 이에요 (i-eh-yo). So, if you were saying “This is Water.” Water = 물 in Korean, and the last ‘character’ is ㄹ, which is consonant. Therefore, it’d be 물이에요.

However, if the word ends in a vowel, then you are going to add 예요 (ye-yo). So, if you were to say “This is coffee.” Coffee = 커티 in Korean, and the last ‘character’ is ㅣ, which is a vowel. Therefore, it’d be 커피예요.

What i have found is that the double consonant sounds are closer to the English pronunciations. ㄸis like a d in English, ㅆ is like an s, ㅉ is like a j, and ㅃ is like a b.

Hello! (Just letting you know I don’t have the Korean keyboard) SO the s is just the normal s sound (like salt or sandwich, but it can change to a sh sound depending on the vowels used) but ss is a stronger s sound not necessarily a sh sound. The ss sort of sounds like when we imitate a snake (sssss). J and jj is similar. J is the normal j sound (like juice or jump) while jj is a stronger sound (I usually pronounce it like the j while smiling lol). Hope this helped, if not, try using google translate to try and differentiate the sounds!!!

I don’t claim to be an expert but the way I understood it was that the ㅅ is pronounced like the s in “standing” or “stop” (so it automatically makes a ‘sh’ sound with the ‘ee’ vowel after it), your tongue is slightly behind your closed teeth and then you pass air through it (I hope this makes sense).
And I understood ㅆ as a sharp, hissing sound(like the English ‘s’), like the ‘s’ sound in “sun” or “set”.

Hmm….for the difference between ㅈ and ㅉ , that is a bit difficult to explain because…..Okay.
Random fact: My mother tongues are Urdu and English. And in Urdu, there are two different ‘j’ sounds (whose romanization is different: ‘j’ and ‘jh’). I related ㅈ( جھ )(‘jh’) and ㅉ( ج )(‘j’) to them. I’ll try my best to explain, though.
So ㅉ can be (in a way) considered to be the same as the English ‘j’. The English ‘j’ is a tense sound, if you think about it. It’s not that aspirated, I would say.
But ㅈ is aspirated. If you try to read ‘j’ and ‘h’ together quickly(quick enough that the two sounds become one) , you might get it (I say “might” because for me, the ‘jh’ naturally becomes ‘جھ’ sound in my mind, so I can’t say for a person who doesn’t know Urdu)

you should add a korean keyboard to your phone (in settings) and there are some others sites and videos on youtube that can help you to learn the korean alphabet (its pretty easy tbh). good luck!!

dont worry. Its not necessary to buy the memebership. There is the website called https://www.howtostudykorean.com/
They teach you the vowels and the consonants pretty well.
or you can go to “youtube” and search for korean class 101.com and video title will be something like hana hana hangul.(i learnt writing from there)but i recccomend “how to study korean ” becoz it is more detailed…..if u hav pronounciation problem,then you can take help from the youtube channel i mentioned.

Oh, I have this input on my laptop to write in Korean. You don’t know how to read or write in Korean? Well… (actually, before I used TTMIK, I used Memrise. They taught you each of these below. Also, I’d prefer just doing some of that, and still do TTMIK because they taught me some pretty random words…)

ㄹ: [l] (for me, I think it’s mostly like an l)

ㅡ: [eu] kind of like “gOOd” – the 2 o’s

ㅓ: [eo] like in “thOUght”, “gOt” (just make sure your mouth is kind of opened big)

ㅌ: [t] like in “Talk”

ㅣ: [i] like in “mEEt”

ㅜ: [u] like in “pOOl”

ㅗ: [o] like in “hOle”

ㅍ: [p] like in “Pinch”

ㅏ: [a] like in “Animal”

ㅅ: [s] like in “Stop”

ㄷ: [d] like in “Door”

ㄱ: [g] like in “Girl”

ㅎ: [h] like in “Hate”

ㅈ: [j] like in “Joke”

ㅋ: [k] like in “cheCK”

ㅇ: silent at the beginning of a word, and before a consonant. [ng] at the end of a vowel – kind of like [eung]

ㅊ: [ch] like in “CHicken”

ㅂ: [b] like in “bus”

ㄴ: [n] like in “No”

ㅁ: [m] like in “MoM”

ㅐ: [ae] it sounds like when you say the letter A but you mix it a bit with “e” like in “bEd”

ㅔ: [e] like the E “bEd”

Can someone tell me what the difference between ㅆ and ㅅ if you know? Is ㅅ like [s] like at the end of “chess”? And is ㅆ [sh] like in “shoe”? If not, what is it? And also, ㅉ and ㅈ. Is ㅉ [j] in “juice”? And is ㅈ like your teeth touching and pronouncing ㅉ [j] but your molars aren’t touching…? If I’m wrong, please tell me the right way. *Please tell me BOTH of them 🙂 *
