  3. Nina Whittaker,

I’ll be off to Korea for 12 months in about a year’s time so I’m trying to get my Korean up to scratch before then, haha. Is anyone else seeking to become an au pair/live-in English tutor?

  4. Mira Sahawneh,

  5. Sharmistha Jatua,

    Ummm so I am doing level 2… I have made some sample sentences.. 1.

@TTMIK… can you check these please???

    • TalkToMeInKorean Staff,

Thank you for learning Korean with us ๐Ÿ™‚
Your example sentences are still good, but the following would sound more natural.
      1. ์ €๋Š” ๋…ธ๋ž˜๋ฅผ ์ž˜ ๋ชปํ•ด์š”. ๊ทธ๋ž˜์„œ ๋…ธ๋ž˜(๋ฅผ) ์ž˜ ์•ˆํ•ด์š”.
For your information, rather than ๋‚˜๋Š”, you should say ์ €๋Š” when you have conversations with those who are older than you or need to be polite.

    • lala lilulu,

For no 1, its gramatically good. But perhaps people often use “๋…ธ๋ž˜๋ฅผ ๋ชปํ•ด์š”” to indicate both you can’t sing or you’re a bad singer. “๋…ธ๋ž˜ ์•ˆ ํ•ด์š”” make the circumstance that you don’t sing, rather than you can’t sing or terrible at it (either if you want to) cmiiw

      • lala lilulu,

        *even not either

    • Sharmistha Jatua,

      *์ฒญ์ˆ˜

      • Mya Ruff,

For number 2, if you are talking about cleaning the noun form is ์ฒญ์†Œ. So to make that into a verb, you need to add ํ•˜๋‹ค. Itโ€™ll become ์ฒญ์†Œํ•˜๋‹ค. In present tense, its ์ฒญ์†Œํ•ด์š”. So the correct way to write number two is ๋‚˜๋Š” ๋ฐฉ์„ ์ฒญ์†Œํ•ด์š”. ๊ทธ๋ž˜์„œ ๋‚˜์ค‘์— ๋งŒ๋‚  ๊ฑฐ์˜ˆ์š”.
        โ€˜

      • TalkToMeInKorean Staff,

        Great! ๐Ÿ™‚ In addition to Mya’s answer, we would like to make it sound more natural by using a present progressive form. -> ์ €๋Š” ๋ฐฉ์„ ์ฒญ์†Œํ•˜๋Š” ์ค‘์ด์—์š”/์ฒญ์†Œํ•˜๊ณ  ์žˆ์–ด์š”. ๊ทธ๋ž˜์„œ (๊ทธ ์‚ฌ๋žŒ์„/์นœ๊ตฌ๋ฅผ) ๋‚˜์ค‘์— ๋งŒ๋‚  ๊ฑฐ์—์š”.

  6. star candy,

Hello, I just stumbled on the word ํ•œ๊ตญ์ธ which means Korean (person). Is it the same with hanguk saram? And how will i know which one to use? Thank you

    • Shyanne,

From my understanding ํ•œ๊ตญ์ธ is more formal (์ €๋Š” ํ•œ๊ตญ์ธ์ž…๋‹ˆ๋‹ค). Also ์ธ is from Chinese. Anything thatโ€™s from Chinese tends to be more formal. ํ•œ๊ตญ ์‚ฌ๋žŒ is used more for everyday conversation (์ €๋Š” ํ•œ๊ตญ ์‚ฌ๋žŒ์ด์—์š”.)

      • TalkToMeInKorean Staff,

        Perfect answer! ๐Ÿ™‚ Thanks!

      • star candy,

Ohhh okay okay. Thank you so much!

  12. Howard A,

    Hello!
Are there special rules when to use -๊ธฐ or -๋Š” ๊ฒƒ when making action verbs into its noun form?
    For instance:
    ์ €๋Š” ๋จน์ง€ ์ข‹์•„ํ•ด์š” and ์ €๋Š” ๋จน๋Š” ๊ฒƒ ์ข‹์•„ํ•ด์š” both mean in terms of โ€œI like to eat.โ€

Is one method generally preferred to the other?

    • TalkToMeInKorean Staff,

      Thank you for your question. Between two sentences(์ €๋Š” ๋จน๊ธฐ ์ข‹์•„ํ•ด์š” and ์ €๋Š” ๋จน๋Š” ๊ฒƒ ์ข‹์•„ํ•ด์š”), the second one is more commonly used in daily lives. ์ €๋Š” ๋จน๋Š” ๊ฒƒ์„/๋จน๋Š” ๊ฑฐ๋ฅผ/๋จน๋Š” ๊ฑธ ์ข‹์•„ํ•ด์š” can be used casually.

    • ะœะธั€ะฐ ะŸัƒัั‚ะธ,

Korean people usually use the first one…
I never heard them to use the second one, maybe It’s just for writing and formaly speaking..
