Hi
Can someone tell me what’s the difference between 기 and 는 것
And why sometimes instead of 는 것 we see just 는
Feel free to provide some examples
Thank you
Hmm. From my understanding
1.Verb stem + 기 and 2. Verb stem + 는 것 are both conjugations used to convert a verb in to a noun.
1. 기 -> more natural and commonly used in speaking
2. 는것 -> more formal and commonly used in written literature (Books/Poems/Songs etc)
공부하는 것 vs 공부하는
공부하는 것 is a noun while 공부하는 is a descriptive verb
Example: 공부하는 사람 (A person who is studying)
Hope it helps you in away. 🙂
I have a question.
what does 분 mean exactly? and what are other words I can use it with?
분 refers to people in respectable manner
ex
그 -> 그 분 = that people
미국인 세 요? -> 미국분 세 요? = Are you American?

Hello! Doubt again (sorry!)
In lesson 15:
이렇게라도 해야 돼요.
= I should at least do this.
= This should at least prevent further trouble.
= I should at least do this, or else…
이렇게 means to do something this way/ like this. So shouldn’t the translation be I should atleast do it like this instead of do this?
From my understanding, 이렇게라도 해야 돼요 means “I should do this way, at least (even tho it is not the best way)”
Doubt in lesson 13:
회의가 길어지는 건 너무 싫어요.
= I hate it when meetings go too long.
I don’t understand the 길어지는 건 part. Can someone explain that?
Here I am again lol. Anyway,
길어지다 means to become long/ to get long.
-는 것 is used to make a verb a noun
So a more accurate translation of 회의가 길어지는 건 너무 싫어요 would be “I really hate a meeting that becomes too long”
I hope you understand my explanation
Hi! Thanks for your reply 🙂 but why is it 건 instead of 것?
것 (은 is the topic marking particle) it is shortened by koreans to 건 for easy pronunciation.
Hi! I’m not 100% sure but I think it is because there is a topic marking particle attached, so it’s 거 + 는 –> 건 (거는 can be contracted to 건).
*The sentence could also work as ‘회의가 길어지는 것은 너무 싫어요.’
As I said, I’m not 100% sure so if someone can correct me if I’m wrong that would be appreciated 🙂
That’s 100% correct
Hi! I have a doubt.
In lesson 11:
친구들이 온 것 같아요. = I think my friends are here.
As this is in the present tense shouldn’t it be “오는 것 같아요” instead of “온”?
친구들이 온것 같아요 -> I think my friends came
친구들이 오는것 같아요 -> I think my friends are coming
온것 같아요 -> Past Tense
오는것 같아요 -> Present Tense
올것 같아요 -> Future Tense
The sentence is translated to “I think my friends are here”. This makes sense for it to be 친구들이 온 것 같아요 because the friends came so they are here. I think my friends come (present tense) doesn’t sound natural in English either.
Ahh yeah got it. Thank you!
Hello! I need someone to correct my sentences. I thought of writing journal entries in korean everyday but I can’t find someone who can regularly help me through it. Please let me know if anyone can help me. Thank you!
Hello, my name is Genevieve. I am still learning Korean just like you are but I can help you regularly on your journal entries. We can work to figure the correct sentences

Hi, let’s study together!
Guys…I have problems with learning Korean…I have a bad memorization, yeah I review all the lessons but after that, I can’t remember how to say “blahblahblah something something” in Korean…And after all lessons in one level, there’s “Test Your Korean – Level (no. of level) Dialounge in 100% Korean”, and my problem with that is I can’t understand what they’re saying(not all) I can only understand few words (about 45%) ..Guys, what to do? Can you give me some tips on learning Korean?… Please help me! 🙁
Hi, I have encountered that same problem as yours, I suppose so do many people in the middle of learning a second language for the fact speaking and listening (aka real-life communication skills) are usually on the harder side to get the proper resource and practice. What I would suggest is to take your time, analyze and take notes of sentence structure and vocab as you read an article or listen to an audio podcast, then reflect upon what you have learned with this course, grammar-wise. 수고하셨습니다 !!! DM me if you have any other concerns ^^
